Last month, Facebook was able to secure Oculus VR, the company that has been responsible for the underground device known as the Oculus Rift. More specifically, this device is a head-mounted entity that promotes virtual reality and video games brought together. As intriguing as this device is, in design, the news of the acquisition in question garnered something of a mixed response amongst the public. It is a story that, in my opinion, any Internet marketing company can focus on and, hopefully, offer a unique take as well.
There have been a number of concerns that I have seen in regards to the Oculus Rift becoming a project owned by Facebook. One of the many claims that I have seen was that it would become more of a piece of technology geared towards social media, seeing as how that is Facebook's bread and butter of sorts. Those in the video game world typically do not see social media on the same level as video game development, so the latter taking precedence over the former should not be overlooked. Kickstarter was the reason why so many people knew about the Oculus Rift and, by proxy, had the opportunity to back the project. Many individuals put forth tremendous amounts of money into it, which goes without saying. However, the fact that Facebook practically took over the project left a lot of backers wondering whether or not they had wasted their time. However, given the fact that these people will still be given their rewards, it's not like they were cheated out of something that they were promised in the first place.
In my mind, firms along the lines of fishbat will be able to see many more positives, instead of negatives, that can come about as a result of this. Keep in mind that Facebook is one of the most financially able companies, which means that those very finances can play into the Oculus Rift's development. Who's to say that it cannot come about at a quicker rate? What this means is that the release of this device will come about and make people happy sooner, which is a point that an Internet marketing company can state.
While it's understandable that people have been apprehensive about Facebook's acquisition of Oculus VR, are these concerns entirely legitimate? Keep in mind that the Oculus Rift itself is an impressive piece of technology; it won't get anywhere unless it has enough financial backing tied to it. The Oculus Rift is, from my experience, one of the most engaging digital experiences seen in quite some time.
